The Mandalorian Season 3 is coming together behind the scenes and if a recent report is to be believed, the show will be bringing back a fan favorite character for its third run.
According to Making Star Wars, IG-11 will be seen in Season 3 and his armored body will apparently serve as a “mech” suit for Grogu, with the little guy sitting inside and controlling it. As the website explains:
Grogu literally sits inside the chest of a modified IG-11 who has been reinforced with beskar and has been turned into the foundling’s suit of Mandalorian armor. The little critter is well protected and as dangerous as ever.
In regards to how, exactly, IG-11 can return given what happened to him the last time he was on screen, MSW states:
We can only theorize at the moment how IG-11 is back after exploding at the end of season one of The Mandalorian. I suspect that the Jawas we see scrambling after the fight just before Moff Gideon emerges with the darksaber are probably somehow responsible for his salvageability.
Or we can speculate it is a new IG droid entirely. But crew members are calling Grogu’s mech suit IG-11, so make of that what you will.
The Mandalorian Season 3 still lacks a release date, but we’ll let you know as soon as that changes.
