Harley Quinn isn’t afraid to poke fun at almost everyone and everything in its path, but it seems that the MCU would’ve been one step too far.
According to EP Patrick Schumacker, they originally had a Marvel-related joke in Season 3, but ultimately decided to remove it. As he explains:
“There was a joke that we ultimately felt like we needed to cut. It was James Gunn sitting on Clayface, who had morphed into a massage chair. Because James Gunn had been complaining of back problems, Clayface is trying to impress him. So that’s the way that he does it.”
“[And at one point Clayface] says ‘James Gunn, sit on me!’ And James Gunn sits and Clayface starts vibrating and James Gunn says, ‘It’s like Thanos snapped and I can feel my anus again.’ And then Clayface is like ‘Who’s Thanos?’ and then we’re out.”
While it would’ve been a pretty funny moment for MCU and DC fans alike, it was cut in the end and below, Schumacker reveals why:
“We were like, ‘This breaks the world, we don’t want to acknowledge that there’s an MCU in the DCU.’”
Fair enough, and while it would’ve been a humurous poke at the franchise, there’s still plenty of laughter to be had in the latest season of Harley Quinn, with tons of DC-related jokes being fired off in each episode that we’ve seen so far. Not to mention some humorous pop culture stabs, too.
