The Batman 2 Gets Another Huge Delay

The Batman Thumb

Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman, shared some news about the sequel, The Batman 2, during an interview at the Golden Globes. The movie is now set to be released on October 1, 2027, after experiencing some delays in production. Reeves mentioned that the script is coming along nicely and that filming is expected to start in 2024. He also expressed his enthusiasm about the project and where it’s heading.

The Batman 2 is connected to the planned second season of the HBO Max series, The Penguin. Reeves mentioned that they are carefully timing both projects. The second season of The Penguin depends on finishing the sequel film first. The creative team is working on ideas for the next season of the series.

Reeves explained, “Lauren [LeFranc], Dylan [Clark], Colin [Farrell], and I are talking about doing another season. Obviously, we’re doing The Batman 2 and have to get the timing right on that. Our plan and our hope is absolutely to do another season. We just have to come up with the idea we think is the right idea which is what we’re working on.”

The Batman

For The Batman 2, director Reeves didn’t share many details about the villain but confirmed that a choice has been made. He said this antagonist will be “completely different” from past Batman villains, suggesting it will be an unexpected pick that shows a new side of Batman, played by Robert Pattinson. This means the villain won’t be Barry Keoghan’s Joker or Colin Farrell’s Penguin, who will have a smaller role in the movie.

There has been some talk online about Mr. Freeze being the main villain in the upcoming film, but the director, Reeves, hasn’t confirmed or denied this. Choosing the villain and planning to shoot the film in the summer might be tricky, especially when it comes to showing a winter scene realistically. Reeves wants to introduce a “different” villain and a new side of Batman, so this film might not follow the usual Batman storylines. The movie plans to continue the current story while also exploring new ideas. However, we still don’t know who the new villain is or the plot’s details.
