Andy Muschietti, the director of the upcoming DC movie The Brave and the Bold, has said that he hasn’t communicated with James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, for over a year. This lack of communication started before they began filming Superman: Legacy in February 2023. Although DC Studios has confirmed that Muschietti is still involved in The Brave and the Bold, the long silence has raised questions about what’s happening with the project.
Muschietti got the directing role for The Brave and the Bold right when The Flash was released in theaters, which led to some speculation about the timing and its effects. His future with the movie seems unclear, especially with the mixed messages about Batman’s role in the DC Universe.

Muschietti mentioned that there are two Batman franchises: Matt Reeves’ The Batman and DCU’s The Brave and the Bold. He pointed out that Reeves is working on a second Batman film, which is expected to come out around 2027, suggesting that releasing both films at the same time wouldn’t make sense.
Muschietti said, “I’ve had conversations with James Gunn about the story concept, but we haven’t talked since before Superman began filming.”
While Muschietti has shown he still wants to direct The Brave and the Bold and mentioned ongoing talks about the film’s story and tone, his comments raise some concerns. When he said, “There are good intentions for now,” it hinted that his involvement might not be guaranteed. This uncertainty calls for some clarification from DC Studios or Gunn.
The situation also reflects a broader communication issue from Gunn, who hasn’t said much about important details concerning the future of the DC Universe. The lack of updates on Gal Gadot’s role as Wonder Woman and Muschietti’s position in The Brave and the Bold highlights the need for better transparency from DC Studios.
The silence is worrying, especially since this film is supposed to be a major project for them. With Gunn focusing on Superman: Legacy and publicly stating that there wouldn’t be delays for The Brave and the Bold, the uncertainty around Muschietti’s role stands out. This, along with the conflicting Batman stories, makes the situation even more complicated, requiring clearer communication from DC Studios. The studio’s approach to the different Batman portrayals is a key point of confusion, given Muschietti’s comments and the overall lack of public updates.
