Netflix’s movie Carry-On, featuring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman, has been very successful since its release in December 2024. It had the highest viewership for a Netflix film that year during its opening weekend, quickly becoming the most-watched title that week and making it into Netflix’s Top 10 in 93 countries.
In just ten days, it racked up nearly 100 million views, and by January, it was ranked fifth on Netflix’s list of the most popular English-language films ever. This success comes from both high viewer engagement and good reviews.

Even with its popularity, director Jaume Collet-Serra mentioned that there are no current plans for a sequel. Producer Dylan Clark hinted that there might be future movies focusing on other characters, specifically talking about the possibility of making a film about Detective Elena Cole, played by Danielle Deadwyler.
The director said, “We don’t have any plans for a sequel, but if audiences wanted a sequel, families wanted a sequel and if we had an idea that would spark and live up to the original maybe we would do something. But right now, there are no plans.”
Collet-Serra was pleased not just with the viewership numbers—reportedly reaching 149.4 million views and 298.7 million hours of watch time—but also with the positive feedback from the audience. He received many messages from people who enjoyed the movie, showing how it connected with viewers. This success has placed Carry-On among Netflix’s top original films, outperforming many other big releases.
With its position at number five on Netflix’s all-time most popular list, it is ahead of films like Leave the World Behind, The Gray Man, Damsel, We Can Be Heroes, and The Mother. It ranks just behind Red Notice, Don’t Look Up, The Adam Project, and Bird Box.
The film’s success is believed to be due to its nod to classic 80s and 90s action movies, which resonated with audiences. Netflix Film Chairman Dan Lin expressed his pleasure with the film’s performance, congratulating the director, producer, and the entire cast and crew. The cast includes Egerton, Bateman, Sofia Carson, Deadwyler, Logan Marshall-Green, Theo Rossi, and Dean Norris.
