Warner Bros. Discovery will show a sneak preview of the upcoming DC film Superman during the Puppy Bowl on February 9, 2024. This preview will be broadcast on several networks, including Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, truTV, Max, and Discovery+. James Gunn, the director of the film and co-CEO of DC Studios, will appear with his dog Ozu, who inspired the character Krypto in the movie.
Gunn will introduce the sneak peek and share a special message with viewers. Additionally, one of the participating puppies will receive the “Krypto Super Play” award. The Puppy Bowl is a popular alternative event to the Super Bowl, attracting around 12.6 million viewers in 2024. Choosing to show the Superman sneak peek during the Puppy Bowl instead of the Super Bowl may be a smart cost-saving marketing move.
Even though the Super Bowl has a much larger audience, the existing buzz around the Superman teaser trailer suggests that airing it during the Puppy Bowl could create a lot of online interest, potentially making an expensive Super Bowl ad unnecessary. The chance of having both a Puppy Bowl preview and a Super Bowl trailer is still possible.

Superman, directed by James Gunn, will be the first film in the new DC Universe. It stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, along with other cast members. The film promises to mix exciting action, humor, and heart, showcasing Superman’s compassion and belief in humanity. It is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
The choice to premiere the sneak peek during the Puppy Bowl ties in with the event’s growing popularity as a family-friendly show that also supports animal adoption. This timing presents a great marketing opportunity ahead of the summer 2025 release of the movie, unless it gets delayed.
