Marvel Studios is struggling to find someone new to play Black Panther after Chadwick Boseman’s death. There are rumors that they might either cast an actor to play a different version of T’Challa or choose to introduce Toussaint, T’Challa’s son, who appeared in Wakanda Forever.
Some actors, like John Boyega, Damson Idris, and David Oyelowo, have turned down the role, possibly because they don’t want to seem like they are replacing Boseman or they feel the pressure of taking on such an important character. David Oyelowo’s age, 48, also raises questions about whether he was looked at for the original T’Challa or Toussaint.
There’s talk of the new version of T’Challa appearing in future Avengers movies or a third Black Panther film. Director Ryan Coogler wants to keep working on the franchise. However, the studio faces challenges because recasting such a beloved character so soon after Boseman’s passing is sensitive. Fans have mixed feelings; some think it’s too soon for a replacement, while others want the character’s story to go on.

One way to handle this situation is to introduce a new T’Challa in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot called Fantastic Four: First Steps. This movie is set in a different 1960s-inspired reality, which could allow for a fresh take on the character without overshadowing Boseman’s version. The setting could also highlight Wakanda’s technology and historical connections with the outside world.
This plan would let Marvel remember Boseman’s legacy while offering a new interpretation of T’Challa. The new version of the character could be younger and more cautious and eventually be brought into the main Marvel timeline through multiverse storylines, possibly appearing in movies like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, this idea is still just a possibility, and how well the audience receives it remains to be seen.
