Captain America: Brave New World Expected To Top $100M

Captain America: Brave New World, the fourth movie in the Captain America series, is creating a lot of excitement at the box office. Early forecasts estimate it could earn between $86 and $95 million during its opening weekend, similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Since the film will be released on Valentine’s Day weekend, alongside Presidents’ Day, it is expected to perform even better. The total gross over the four-day holiday could top $100 million, making it the second-best opening for a Captain America film, right after Captain America: Civil War. However, Civil War‘s success was partly due to its crossover with the Avengers.

Anthony Mackie takes on the role of the new Captain America, with Harrison Ford making his MCU debut as Thaddeus Ross. The story will link back to events from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, continuing the larger narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is directed by Julius Onah, known for movies like The Cloverfield Paradox and Luce. The title was changed from Captain America: New World Order because of concerns about the phrase’s real-world implications.

While early indicators show strong interest, Brave New World will face competition from other films released during the same holiday weekend. Its box office success will likely be compared more to Winter Soldier than any other MCU films. The marketing push for the movie is expected to ramp up, especially during the Super Bowl, which could also help its box office performance.

There have been reports of significant reshoots, which Anthony Mackie noted is common for Marvel movies and doesn’t necessarily mean there are problems with production. Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes, has been asked about whether he will appear in Brave New World. He has been vague about his involvement, but he is confirmed to feature in Thunderbolts and Avengers: Doomsday, so he is still part of the MCU. Stan has expressed appreciation for the support he received from Marvel Studios throughout his career, emphasizing the importance of his role in the franchise.

The film also stars Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. Kevin Feige and Nate Moore are producing the film, while Louis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth are executive producers. Captain America: Brave New World is set to be released in U.S. theaters on February 14, 2025.
