Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow DCU Movie Started Filming

Filming for DC Studios’ movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, has officially started in the UK. Most of the shooting is happening at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, London, mainly inside soundstages. Milly Alcock, who gained fame from House of the Dragon, will play Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El. She has posted a picture showing that she’s in London, but we haven’t seen any movie images yet. Craig Gillespie is directing the film.

The script, written by Ana Nogueira, is based on a comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely from 2021 to 2022. James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, mentioned that the script was so good that it became the second film in the new DC Universe (DCU), following his Superman movie. He also pointed out that while Alcock might have filmed some scenes for the Superman movie, her role there isn’t directly linked to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Alcock said, “I didn’t necessarily know that Supergirl would be the second movie we were going to make, but Ana wrote an incredible script, and then we hired an incredible director, and we’re going to do this movie after Superman because he was the best option. Other movies have been written, but they haven’t been as good as this one. So we’re going to keep going with that. Everything has to be good. Quality comes first in every project we do. And that’s more important than telling a grandiose mega-narrative.”

Supporting actors include Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Jason Momoa as Lobo. Krypto, Supergirl’s dog, is expected to play a significant role. This new take on Supergirl will be darker and edgier than previous versions. The story focuses on Supergirl celebrating her 21st birthday with Krypto, leading her to a surprising quest for revenge with Ruthye.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to release on June 26, 2026. It will be part of the DCU’s Gods and Monsters chapter, which aims to create a new storyline for DC films. The production is taking advantage of the extensive facilities at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, known for hosting many major film and TV projects.

Gunn plans to largely shoot future DC films in London. The production team also includes Gunn and Peter Safran as producers, with the story described as a vast journey for revenge, taking inspiration from the True Grit genre.
