A new standee for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot was revealed at Bengaluru Comic Con in India, and it’s getting a lot of attention from fans because it looks a lot like the classic 1978 film, Superman: The Movie. The standee features a 3D effect that pays tribute to that film, which Gunn has said inspired his new project. Previous hints about the 1978 film’s influence have also been shared, including some musical elements.
The famous score by John Williams from Superman: The Movie has inspired the music in the reboot’s teaser trailer. Although Gunn thought about using an entirely original score, he decided to include a version of Williams’ theme instead, trying to balance respect for the past with a fresh take on Superman. Composer John Murphy started working on the score before the script was even finished, ensuring it fits well with the film’s vision.

Gunn said, “I knew from the beginning what I wanted to do with the music, I thought about it a lot, ‘Are we going to do something completely different? Are we going to use the [John] Williams’ theme? That soundtrack is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, and when I was a kid, really… The thing I loved the most about the movie was the music. That was the thing I took home with me more than anything else, but I knew we were doing something that was harkening back to the past but also looking forward to the future, and so it was about finding that balance.”
This upcoming Superman film will be the first feature produced by DC Studios under Gunn’s leadership and is set to be released in theaters next summer by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film aims to show a different side of Superman, mixing exciting action, humor, and deeper emotions. The character will be portrayed as someone who believes in compassion and the goodness of humanity.
David Corenswet will play Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult will take on the role of Lex Luthor. The supporting cast includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and several others. Gunn, Murphy, and the team worked closely together during the film’s production.
The design of the standee, the music, and the plot points all indicate a deliberate effort to honor Superman: The Movie while also creating a new identity for this version of the superhero. The film’s look and sound aim to evoke nostalgia for longtime fans while attracting newer audiences to the DC universe. It is expected to come out in the summer movie season.
The visual and audio aspects are designed to create a cinematic experience that combines classic elements with modern filmmaking. More details and promotional content will be shared in the coming months. The film’s success will depend on how well it respects the legacy of previous Superman movies while establishing its own unique identity. Combining classic elements with new ideas will be crucial for its overall impact. The large cast also hints at a broad appeal and possibly a complex storyline.
