Amor Wars Still Unclear As Next MCU Project

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Armor Wars project is unclear right now. It was first announced as a Disney+ series back in 2019, focusing on James Rhodes, also known as War Machine, but has faced major delays.

In 2022, it was planned as a movie instead. However, recent news says this movie is currently on hold, not canceled, as it is being rewritten after fans didn’t respond well to the show Secret Invasion. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is changing a lot of the original ideas for the project, which means it will look different from what was first planned. The movie is expected to come out after Avengers: Secret Wars.

One reason for these changes might be related to the storylines hinted at in Secret Invasion, which suggested War Machine could be a Skrull. While this story idea grabbed attention, the poor reaction to Secret Invasion may have made Marvel rethink it. The project could easily shift in a new direction since there’s uncertainty about War Machine’s connection to that storyline.

Iron Man 3 Thumb

There are also questions about how much interest there really is in a solo movie about War Machine. While he’s a popular character, many fans may not be craving a film just about him. Though characters like Ironheart and Justin Hammer are likely to appear, the popularity of Tony Stark from the Iron Man movies might affect how well Armor Wars does, especially since he won’t be in the project.

If a new Iron Man is introduced after Avengers: Secret Wars, it might give Armor Wars a fresh narrative boost. Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, has spoken about the uncertainty surrounding the project, stating that big changes are happening and the future is not set. He also mentioned that the Skrull storyline was just an idea and the final direction will depend on the broader story of the MCU.

In short, Armor Wars doesn’t have a release date right now and production seems to be significantly delayed. Its future depends on how the rewrites go and where the MCU heads after Avengers: Secret Wars. The addition of a new Iron Man could change things for the better, but the lack of a solid release date and the uncertainty in the project’s story suggests that Marvel Studios is doing a lot of reevaluation.
