The neo-noir action thriller is a cult classic and won rave reviews upon its debut in 2003. It even got an American remake from Spike Lee, though it wasn’t nearly as good.
The original is fantastic, however, and crazy in all the right ways, following a man who’s “imprisoned in a cell which resembles a hotel room for 15 years without knowing the identity of his captor or his captor’s motives.” What happens after he gets out is when the craziness kicks in and if you’re looking for something to watch on Netflix today, Oldboy is as good as they come.
