When it comes to recent box office bombs, The Last Duel has got to be right up there.
The Ridley Scott-directed historical epic features Ben Affleck and Matt Damon but only managed to pull in $29.8 million on a budget of $100 million. Critics were kinder, with the film sitting at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences just weren’t interested in watching this tale of a man who must “settle his dispute with his squire by challenging him to a duel.”
Admittedly, it’s far from Scott’s best work, but it’s still a well made movie and now, it’s finding some new life on Disney Plus, as it can be found at #8 on the most-watched films list worldwide, having jumped a whopping 21 points since yesterday. Whether subscribers are enjoying it or not, though, is another question entirely.
