Is Yellowstone Prequel 1883 Based On A True Story?

Is Paramount+’s new Yellowstone prequel, 1883, based on a true story. Or is it just inspired by real-life events?

1883 Thumb

Paramount+ finally premiered 1883 this weekend and after watching the Yellowstone prequel, you may be wondering if the Western series is based on a true story.

Taking place in the 19th century, many years before the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch turned into an empire in Montana, we get an exhilarating look at what life was like in American Wild West during the 1800s. And while 1883 is indeed set against a real-world backdrop, it’s not based on a true story.

Rather, it’s a fictional tale that brings us the origins of the Yellowstone Ranch that is simply set during the Westward Expansion in America during the 19th century. That doesn’t make it any less of a compelling watch, though, and so far, at least, we’d say that 1883 is looking like a worthy companion piece to the original show.
