Why Hawkeye’s Avengers: Endgame Callback Is So Important

The Avengers: Endgame callback in Hawkeye has been discussed a lot already, but here’s why it’s more important than you think.

Black Widow Avengers Endgame Thumb

Hawkeye‘s finale featured an important scene between Clint and Yelena, where the former explains to the latter how Natasha sacrificed herself in Avengers: Endgame. The two share a heartfelt moment and it’s here where there’s a significant callback to the aforementioned film.

As Looper explains:

Clint is on his knees, directly paralleling the scene in Avengers: Endgame when he fell to his knees after Natasha’s death. In that scene, he kneels in a puddle of water on the planet of Vormir, tears falling down his face as he looks around and finds himself utterly alone. In contrast, the scene in Episode 6 of “Hawkeye” sees Yelena extending her hand to help lift him to his feet.

Continuing on, they say:

Not only does this callback reinforce the impact that Natasha’s death had on these two characters, but it also symbolizes just how far Clint has come since the events of Endgame. Being pulled back up to his feet is a moment of redemption and closure, showing that he is finally beginning to heal from that loss, and reaffirming that Natasha’s death was not in vain.

Of course, this isn’t the only parallel in Hawkeye and nor is it the most important callback that the show brought us. But it’s still an interesting moment for fans and one that truly shows us the evolution of Clint as a character.
