Vincent D’Onofrio, the man behind Kingpin, has revealed that two of his fellow colleagues helped inspire him to take on the role.
The first was Robert Downey Jr., who of course plays Iron Man in the MCU. And while speaking about how he became interested in tackling Wilson Fisk, D’Onofrio said:
“The only thing that was on my radar at that point when it comes to superhero stuff was Robert [Downey Jr.’s] performance in Iron Man, which I thought was extremely impressive. It made me think [about superhero films] for the first time…”

The other actor who helped push him into the genre was Hugh Jackman, best known for iconic performance as Wolverine. And here’s what D’Onofrio shared about him:
“I think I was actually with Hugh Jackman, [he] was over my house cause our kids went to the same school together. And we were sitting in my patio—I’ve never told this story before actually—and I said, ‘You know this superhero stuff is really turning out to be interesting,’ and he goes ,‘Yeah.’ And I’m like, ‘You know, I think I’m gonna, one day, I’m gonna get the chance to play one of those bad guys, and I think I could tear it up.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, I think you could too.”
We last saw Kingpin in the Hawkeye finale, where he seemingly met his end. But no doubt that was just a fakeout as surely Marvel wouldn’t bring D’Onofrio back just to kill him off, right?
