Not every Ben Stiller movie is a home run, but The Secret Life of Walter Mitty certainly deserved better.
An ambitious, imaginative ride, it follows the actor as Walter Mitty, “an employee at Life magazine, spends day after monotonous day developing photos for the publication. To escape the tedium, he inhabits a world of exciting daydreams in which he is the undeniable hero.”
It was a bit of a departure for Stiller in a number of ways but unfortunately, critics didn’t buy into it, with the pic holding a weak 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its Audience Score, however, is 71% and over on Disney Plus today, it’s the 18th most-watched movie on the platform worldwide.
So, even though critics weren’t into it at the time of its release, it seems that this underrated Ben Stiller film is now finding new life on streaming and maybe in a few years it’ll even get a reappraisal.
