While Kingpin’s return was probably the biggest talking point of the Hawkeye finale, let’s not forget that we also got the exciting reveal that Clint’s wife Laura was once an agent working for S.H.I.E.L.D. However, those who’ve been paying attention over the years might’ve already known this.
If you recall, back in Avengers: Age of Ultron, when the group has to recoup for a bit they head to Clint’s farm and it’s here where we get a bit of a tease for the aforementioned reveal. As Looper explains:
The Avengers are appropriately flabbergasted, but it’s Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) who drops this little tidbit, “This is an agent of some kind,” in reference to Laura. He may have meant it as a joke, but as it turns out, he was correct. Laura was, in fact, an agent, but it appears as though she hung up the mantle a long time ago.”
The MCU is known for this sort of thing, planting seeds for and foreshadowing big reveals years in advance, and while we don’t know where Laura will go from here or if we’ll ever see her again, it was still nice to have things come full circle in Hawkeye.
