The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Super Bowl trailer made a major impact on MCU fans last night, giving them a lot to digest. But amongst all the commotion you might’ve missed the fact that it debunked a big What If…? theory.
For a while now, folks have assumed that the dark alternate Strange who we saw in the previous trailer and in this one is Strange Supreme from the aforementioned Disney Plus series. But the closed captions for the Super Bowl spot actually refer to him as being Sinister Strange, a brand new character and one not seen previously in the MCU.

Of course, just because this particular version of the titular hero isn’t Strange Supreme, that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing that iteration in the movie. After all, there are set to be several different versions of Doctor Strange in the sequel. Not to mention that another What If…? character – Captain Carter – has been teased as well.
For now, though, we’ll just need to wait and see which other versions of the Sorcerer Supreme end up making an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
