Star Wars Skeleton Crew Cut First Arab Female Jedi

Yasmine Al Massri, known for her roles in movies like Caramel and shows like Quantico, filmed a scene for the season finale of Skeleton Crew, a Star Wars series. In this scene, she played an unnamed Jedi who mentored a young character named Jod Na Nawood, portrayed by Jude Law, after Order 66.

The episode, titled “The Real Good Guys,” shows Jod as a poor child who found guidance in the Jedi before the Jedi’s death at the hands of what are believed to be Imperial Inquisitors.

Unfortunately, Al Massri’s scene was cut from the final episode. She expressed disappointment but understood it’s common for scenes to be removed from productions. She highlighted the importance of being the first Arab female Jedi, even if just for a moment, and mentioned how great it was to rehearse with Jude Law.

Massri said, “This was the shortest acting job I have done but the most meaningful to the child in me.. playing a Jedi for one scene in Skeleton Crew.. I gave a speech when the crew wrapped me on set saying : you just created the first Arab female Jedi.. thank you.. the scene unfortunately Didn’t make it to the finale cut bc these things happen.. but I can not not share my experience and feelings.. even Liam rehearsed that scene with me and I got to brag about it with his friends which got me coolest mom respect for a moment.”

The showrunners, Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, explained that they needed to keep the focus on the children’s perspective in the story. They felt that the flashback would disrupt the flow of the narrative, especially since the children don’t have experience with characters like Jod who have such a troubled past.

Watts also mentioned that there is a lot of potential to explore Jod’s backstory further in the Star Wars universe. He pointed out that there are many stories and characters to discover in this expansive lore. Skeleton Crew, created by Jon Watts, features a diverse group of directors, including The Daniels, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Chung, David Lowery, and Jake Schreier.

The series follows four children who stumble upon a mysterious discovery, leading them on an exciting adventure through space as they try to return home. The main cast includes Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Jude Law. Even though Al Massri’s part didn’t make it into the final cut, it adds depth to a key character’s backstory.

Based on what the showrunners have said, there’s still a chance this storyline could come back in future seasons.
