Neo and Trinity have officially returned, with The Matrix Resurrections now out in theaters and on HBO Max. And while there’s no official confirmation on a sequel just yet, we do know that several of the cast and crew have voiced their interest in doing one. In fact, there’ve even been rumors of a whole new trilogy.
But of course, it will all depend on how the flick does at the box office and with HBO Max subscribers. Though as one of the most hotly-anticipated sequels in some time, it shouldn’t have any trouble pulling in an audience.
And besides, The Matrix Resurrections certainly leaves the door open for the story to continue, while a number of seeds are planted throughout the movie that can be explored in future outings. So in short, while there’s no sequel officially greenlit just yet, it’s very likely we’ll get one. Just don’t expect it until 2023/2024.
