Monster Hunter never stood much of a chance given that it was a video game movie, and those usually don’t work out too well, but it suffered a fate worse than most probably expected.
Reviews weren’t kind at all and in the Chinese market, where it would’ve made a decent amount of money, it was pulled from theaters due to some controversy involving a racist slur in one scene. Which also led to review bombing online.
Suffice it to say, things didn’t go how the studio probably thought they would, but at least it’s finding new life on Netflix. Currently, it’s the 42nd most-watched film on the platform worldwide, and given that it’s relatively easy-to-digest entertainment, it’ll probably climb a bit higher in the days to come.
