Netflix delivered a nice, meaty haul on Wednesday, dropping 10 new releases on the platform. And one of them’s an underrated sci-fi movie worth another look.
We’re talking about 2014’s The Giver, based on the young adult novel of the same name. It stars Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, Odeya Rush, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgård and Katie Holmes, and though critics weren’t too impressed with it, many viewers felt it was a decent adaptation of the source material.
For those unfamiliar, The Giver follows “a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice,” where “a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the “real” world.” Don’t expect a perfect movie, but in terms of killing a few hours on Netflix, you can definitely do worse.
