Front Man Ends Many Netflix Squid Game Rumors

Lee Byung-hun, the actor who plays the Front Man in Netflix’s Squid Game, recently talked about some fan theories about the show’s second season during an interview with co-star Lee Jung-jae on Hot Ones Versus. He addressed theories like the idea that the island is actually a ship, that Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae’s character) is the son of Oh Il-nam (Player 001), and that the Front Man is an undercover police officer. Byung-hun clearly stated that these theories aren’t true.

While he dismissed these ideas in a light-hearted way, it did give fans some clarity for future speculation. The theory suggesting a father-son bond between Gi-hun and Il-nam, which became popular after Season 1, was particularly denied. However, a new theory has emerged suggesting that Il-nam is connected to the Front Man (In-ho), based on similarities like both characters’ dislike for regular milk and their strong ties to the games. This theory seems credible since Il-nam is the game’s creator and In-ho became the Front Man after winning in 2015.

Lee Jung-jae: “Tell me which of the following fan theories are true. ‘The island is a ship, Gi-Hun is the son of Oh Il-nam, Front Man is an undercover cop.'”

Lee Byung-hun: “Honestly, none were correct.”

Season 2 ended ambiguously, leaving many questions about what might happen in Season 3. The conflict between Gi-hun and the Front Man is likely to grow, which might reveal more about their relationship and the Front Man’s background. The nature of the island is also still unclear, leading to speculation that it could be a mobile structure, which might explain why Jun-ho and his team had trouble finding it.

Fans have various predictions for Season 3. These include exploring Gi-hun’s moral struggles and continuing his fight against the games, which might end with his tragic sacrifice to bring down the operation. Other ideas involve player or guard uprisings, the games being exposed in Korea, and possibly expanding to international locations. Many fans hope Gi-hun will eventually reunite with his daughter in America.

Even though some theories have been firmly debunked, Byung-hun’s responses were still a bit mysterious, leaving room for interpretation. This suggests that deeper family connections or secrets about the island might still be revealed. The creators of the show have skillfully used this ambiguity to keep fans engaged and speculating as they wait for Season 3. The unresolved storylines and the confirmation that some popular theories are wrong set the stage for an unpredictable and intricate plot in the next season.
