Squid Game Creator Talks Season 3 Release Date

The release of Squid Game Season 3 is highly awaited after Season 2 wrapped up. While a third season is confirmed, the exact release date is still uncertain. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has provided some updates about when we might expect it.

Hwang mentioned that the season will come out in 2025, which goes against earlier Netflix statements saying it might be released in 2025. He noted that it is unlikely to premiere in May, but it should come out sometime later in the year, possibly in the summer or fall.

Filming for Season 3 finished in July 2024, and it was shot at the same time as Season 2. As of November 2024, post-production work, especially editing, is almost done, meaning the show is close to being ready for release. Given how much time has passed since filming wrapped up, a release could be happening soon.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “I don’t think it’s May, but it will come out this year… It’s coming, it’s coming. I’m working on it. It’s coming soon. Sooner than you’d expect.”

The time between Season 3’s launch and the debut of Season 2 is important for Netflix’s release strategy. Generally, Netflix tries to keep a shorter gap between announcing a release and the actual premiere. With the show’s popularity in both South Korea and North America, they might aim for a key holiday, like the Fourth of July, for a strategic release date.

Based on all this information, it seems likely that Season 3 will come out in the summer or fall. However, we are still waiting for Netflix to make an official announcement about the specific release date. It’s common for Netflix to keep details a bit vague, leading to eager fans waiting for more information. Given the show’s success, there’s clearly a huge audience excited for the new season.
