A New Actor Throws His Hat In The Ring For Batman Role In The Brave & The Bold

Brandon Sklenar, who has acted in movies like It Ends With Us, Emily the Criminal, and the series 1923, is interested in playing Batman in the upcoming DC Universe film The Brave and the Bold. His interest has gained attention thanks to support from fans online and a shout-out from his It Ends With Us co-star, Blake Lively. Sklenar has even shared fan art of himself as Batman.

Director Andy Muschietti has said that The Brave and the Bold will feature a new actor, Batman, who is different from the one in Matt Reeves’ Batman movies. He emphasized that the two franchises will not be released at the same time to avoid confusion. Reeves’ next Batman movie is expected to come out around 2027.

It’s unclear if Sklenar’s campaign will lead to a serious casting opportunity. In the past, actors have landed roles thanks to fan support—Aaron Pierre, for example, is a potential cast member for John Stewart in Lanterns. Some say Sklenar’s age could be a hurdle, as DC is looking for a middle-aged actor, and at 34, he might be seen as too young for Batman.

Batman started his career at 25, and at 34, he’d be a long-time crimefighter, but 34 is far from middle-aged. Despite this, Sklenar’s involvement in online discussions about the casting could attract the studio’s attention. However, the casting process is likely still in the early stages, so it’s too soon to say who might be serious contenders for the role.

The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman in the DC Universe, focusing on his relationship with his son, Damian Wayne. The story will be inspired by Grant Morrison’s Batman comics and will feature other characters from the Bat family. The producers aim to better represent the extended Bat family in movies, showcasing Damian Wayne as a complicated character with a difficult background, having been trained as an assassin before meeting his father (like in the comics). This aspect will play a big role in the film’s story.
