David Krumholtz is joining the cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, directed by Craig Gillespie. This movie is the second part of James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Krumholtz will play Zor-El, Supergirl’s father, who Milly Alcock portrays. The film is set to be released on June 26, 2026, and Emily Beecham will play Supergirl’s mother. This announcement comes after Jason Momoa was cast as Lobo in the DC Universe.
Krumholtz shared his excitement about the role on Instagram, mentioning his love for comic books as a kid and how honored he feels to be part of the DC Universe. He emphasized the importance of portraying Zor-El as a symbol of hope. Recently, he appeared in Oppenheimer and the indie film Lousy Carter. He also has a role in Scott Cooper’s biopic about Bruce Springsteen, called Deliver Me from Nowhere.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is part of Gunn’s revised DC Universe, which started with the release of Superman in 2024. Alcock, who is also in House of the Dragon, will be featured in both movies. The production of the Supergirl film is currently underway. Gunn’s DC Universe also includes an animated series called Creature Commandos, which is streaming on Max.

The success of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is uncertain, but its connection to Gunn’s DC Universe and the talented cast create high expectations. The film aims to contribute to a new era of DC films. How well Superman, the first movie in this rebooted DC Universe, performs will likely set the expectations for Supergirl.
