Kraven The Hunter May Come To Digital Platforms Far Sooner Than Expected

Sony Pictures’ movie Kraven the Hunter hit US theaters on December 13, 2024, and is expected to be available for digital and VOD release on January 14, 2025. Sony hasn’t officially confirmed this date, but it makes sense. The film hasn’t done well at the box office, making only $58.9 million worldwide, and currently has a low rating of 17% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Typically, Sony Pictures takes its time releasing films digitally after their theatrical run, but the poor ticket sales and the ease of finding the movie online might be speeding up this digital release. On Amazon Prime Video, the film is expected to cost $24.99 to buy and $19.99 to rent. Reasons for the movie’s underperformance could include internal studio issues and differing opinions during editing, as noted by actor Alessandro Nivola, who played Rhino.

Directed by J.C. Chandor and written by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, Kraven the Hunter stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the main character. The cast also includes Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, and Russell Crowe.

The story follows Kraven Kravinoff and his complicated relationship with his gangster father, which leads him to seek revenge and become a feared hunter. This action-packed, R-rated film tells the origin story of one of Marvel’s famous villains.

Although the digital release date isn’t confirmed yet, the film’s quick move to digital reflects current trends in the industry due to box office results and piracy. This digital release might help Sony recover some of the losses from the film.
