There are reports suggesting that George Miller, the director known for the Mad Max films, might be in line to direct Marvel’s upcoming World War Hulk movie. This rumor started from a Production Weekly listing that indicated filming could kick off as early as 2025. According to World of Reel, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has reached out to several directors, including Miller, regarding this project. Mark Ruffalo is likely to return as the Hulk.
The World War Hulk story, taken from a Marvel Comics crossover, focuses on the Hulk seeking revenge against the Illuminati after the death of his wife. The film is expected to connect with events from Captain America: Brave New World, which is set for a February 2025 release, and Thunderbolts, coming out in May 2025. These movies will lead into the Hulk’s solo film.

Although Miller is rumored to be involved with World War Hulk, there are hints that he may prefer to direct Thor 5. This interest comes from his work with Chris Hemsworth on Furiosa, and Hemsworth reportedly set up a meeting between Miller and Feige to discuss possible directing roles for him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If a World War Hulk film happens, it would be significant because it would be the first solo Hulk movie since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, which starred Edward Norton. Fans have been eagerly waiting for a new solo Hulk film after seeing him in various Avengers movies, Thor: Ragnarok, and the series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Miller has a diverse background in filmmaking, having worked on everything from action films like Mad Max: Fury Road to animated movies like Happy Feet. He had previously looked into directing a superhero film called Justice League: Mortal, which never came to fruition. Despite not directing superhero films before, he is open-minded about the genre and appreciates its popularity.
