Plastic Man May Be Next Big Hero

There’s a rumor going around that DC Studios is working on a movie about Plastic Man for the DC Universe. James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, hasn’t officially confirmed or denied this. Rumor has it that Darren Aronofsky might direct the film, but that’s not certain yet.

This speculation started online and gained attention after Ben Schwartz, who voices Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, talked about wanting to play Plastic Man. He mentioned the character’s funny side and how he stands out from more serious members of the Justice League since he used to be a criminal.

The idea is that this film could fit into the DCU along with other lesser-known characters like Clayface and Sgt. Rock seems part of a strategy to diversify the DCU beyond just its famous heroes. Plastic Man, created in 1941 by Jack Cole, can change his shape and size, which could make for a visually interesting movie. His story involves him turning from a petty criminal named Patrick “Eel” O’Brian into a superhero after a chemical accident, leading him to choose to do good with his powers.

Aronofsky’s potential involvement is interesting because he was almost part of a Batman: Year One project in the past. His style usually focuses on deep themes and character development, which could suit a nuanced take on Plastic Man. However, since nothing has been officially confirmed, it’s still uncertain.

The ongoing buzz, plus Schwartz’s interest and the possibility of Aronofsky directing, suggests there might be some truth to the rumor, but until DC Studios makes an official announcement, it remains speculation. A Plastic Man movie could be part of a larger trend in the DCU to explore a wider variety of characters and storytelling styles.
