RJD May Stay As Doom In MCU For A While

Marvel Studios is reportedly planning for Robert Downey Jr. to keep playing Doctor Doom after Avengers: Secret Wars. This comes after his unexpected casting in the role, which followed the removal of Jonathan Majors as the main villain for the Multiverse Saga.

Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is meant to recreate the success of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, with the Russo brothers directing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

His first appearance as Doctor Doom is expected to be in a post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps before he takes on a major role in Avengers: Doomsday. He’s also likely to return in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, fans have had mixed reactions to this casting, particularly regarding how it might impact future Fantastic Four films. Some worry that Downey Jr.’s portrayal might overshadow the main characters of the Fantastic Four.

Despite these concerns, there are rumors that Marvel plans to keep Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom even after the Multiverse Saga ends in 2027. This would go against the typical storyline of Doctor Doom in the comics, where he often has to deal with setbacks but continues to rule his country, Latveria. It’s not confirmed whether Downey Jr. is willing to commit to a long-term role. Still, some speculate it could even lead to a revival of the Iron Man franchise, with Doctor Doom taking on a similar persona to Infamous Iron Man from the comics.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but he will play a significant role in Avengers: Secret Wars. His absence in Doomsday is due to changes in the story. Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to kick off a new chapter in MCU storytelling, possibly connected to Doctor Strange and Clea dealing with an incursion, as shown in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The release dates for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are set for May 2026 and May 2027, respectively, but these plans could change based on various factors like actor availability and production schedules. Keep in mind that these plans are based on rumors and speculation and have not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios.
