Showtime is expanding the Dexter series with several new projects in different stages of development. The prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, has already premiered and is currently airing. Michael C. Hall narrates the show, which includes various references to the original series, such as a recent nod to the Ice Truck Killer in episode six.
This reference features a Miami Chills ice truck, a fictional brand made for the Dexter universe, which appears briefly in the background. Although it hints at the Ice Truck Killer’s way of transporting victims, the timeline of the prequel suggests that Brian Moser (the Ice Truck Killer) isn’t directly involved in the story yet.

While past Dexter series received mixed responses, Original Sin is receiving more positive responses from fans. Production has also started on another sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, which is set to premiere in June 2025. The first photo from Dexter: Resurrection shows a film slate in the snow, indicating a winter setting in line with Dexter: New Blood. This new sequel is expected to take place in New York City, marking a big change from the previous locations in the series. There are casting rumors suggesting that the story will follow Dexter as he tries to evade the police after the events of New Blood.
Dexter: Resurrection will bring back several important characters, including Angel Batista, Harrison Morgan, and Harry Morgan. The story will likely revolve around Batista trying to catch Dexter while Dexter searches for his son. There’s speculation about Peter Dinklage possibly playing a villain, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet. Showtime has mentioned that Dexter: Resurrection could have multiple seasons, moving away from the single-season format of Dexter: New Blood.
