Hawkeye Directors Explain How Kingpin’s Return Was Kept A Secret

The directors behind Hawkeye Episode 5 have explained how they kept Kingpin’s return a secret while shooting the show.

Kingpin Thumb

It might’ve been heavily rumored beforehand, but seeing Kingpin at the end of Hawkeye Episode 5 still nearly broke the internet.

Indeed, it’s great to have the villain back in the MCU and with Vincent D’Onofrio in the role again, and the directors behind the latest installment of the Disney Plus series have explained the lengths they went to in order to keep his involvement a secret.

“The thing about Vincent is he and his doubles would arrive under cloaks because no one could see them,” Bert, one half of the directing duo Bert and Bertie, said.

“We were filming some things in public places and we had to get them to set. We realized the scale of how important it was to keep it a secret, so we would smuggle them in under black cloaks. Vincent and his doubles too because once you see his double, you would know it’s Kingpin.”

It sounds similar to the tactics used by many other Marvel productions, and though the surprise kind of got out ahead of time, I think we can all agree that it’s still hugely exciting to have Mr. Fisk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the possibilities for where he can go from here are endless.
